Travel to KAIST

From your arrival terminal to the right front door.

Choose your starting point and destination for a practical journey, a Korean taxi card and the details to check before departure.

Source review: · Planning guidance, not a live timetable

Your journey

Read offline or without JavaScript: choose an arrival route below, then the destination card for your final taxi ride. All directions are stored on this page; external maps, reservations and live schedules need internet access.

Before buying: confirm your flight terminal, travel date, destination stop and last departure. Allow time for immigration, baggage and transfers. Fares and travel times vary; use the operator’s result for your date, not an old screenshot.

RECOMMENDED · DIRECT AIRPORT BUS + TAXI

Incheon Airport · Terminal 1

ICN T1 → Daejeon Government Complex → your destination

A straightforward option with luggage: one intercity bus, then a taxi. Stay at your arrival terminal; you do not need to transfer to T2.

  1. Buy a ticket to Daejeon Government Complex. After baggage claim and customs, use the airport bus ticket counter or kiosk. Ask for 대전청사; online, look for IncheonAirportT1 → DaejeonGovComplex in T-money intercity reservations. Confirm the intermediate stop with staff.
  2. Board on the arrivals level, 1F, stop 11. This is the area listed by Incheon Airport’s Daejeon route on the review date. Check the exact bay, departure and seat on your ticket and the display; “11” is not an exit or seat number.
  3. Alight at Daejeon Government Complex (대전청사). The official route lists North Daejeon IC, Doryong, Government Complex, then Daejeon terminal. Do not stay aboard to the final terminal by mistake. Keep your luggage receipt and collect your bags.
  4. Finish by taxi. From the Government Complex bus stop, use the destination card below and ask for that building or hotel—not just “KAIST”.
Alternative: AREX + KTX via Seoul Station
  1. Follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs to the airport station. Buy an AREX Express ticket to Seoul Station, or use the all-stop train toward Seoul Station with a valid local transit ticket/card. AREX official information.
  2. At Seoul Station, follow KTX / mainline train signs. Buy a separate KORAIL ticket to Daejeon (대전), not Seodaejeon. Board the train, carriage and seat on the ticket; check the live platform display.
  3. At Daejeon Station, follow taxi signs and show the selected destination card. Rail avoids highway traffic but adds transfers and a separate reservation.

RECOMMENDED · DIRECT AIRPORT BUS + TAXI

Incheon Airport · Terminal 2

ICN T2 → Daejeon Government Complex → your destination

The same Daejeon route serves T2, but its boarding area and departure time differ from T1.

  1. Buy the correct terminal’s bus ticket. After baggage claim and customs, follow intercity bus signs to the Transportation Center, basement B1. Use a counter or kiosk for 대전청사, or search IncheonAirportT2 → DaejeonGovComplex on T-money.
  2. Board at B1 stop 5. Incheon Airport’s Daejeon route lists this location on the review date. Check the ticket and signs for the exact bay. Do not use a T1 departure time as your T2 boarding time.
  3. Alight at Daejeon Government Complex (대전청사). It is after Doryong and before the final Daejeon terminal on the published route. Collect all luggage.
  4. Finish by taxi. From the Government Complex bus stop, use the destination card below and ask for the exact building or hotel.
Alternative: AREX + KTX via Seoul Station
  1. Follow AREX signs in T2’s transportation center. Buy an Express ticket or a local ticket/card for an all-stop train toward Seoul Station. AREX.
  2. At Seoul Station, follow KTX signs and buy a separate KORAIL ticket to Daejeon (대전). Check the departure board for the platform.
  3. Alight at Daejeon Station and take a taxi to the destination on your card. This adds transfers but avoids the long highway bus leg.

RECOMMENDED · AREX ALL-STOP + KTX + TAXI

Gimpo Airport

GMP → Seoul Station → Daejeon Station → your destination

  1. Follow Airport Railroad / AREX signs. From either terminal, use the signed connection to Gimpo Airport Station. Buy a single-journey ticket or use a valid transit card for the all-stop train toward Seoul Station. The non-stop AREX Express does not serve Gimpo.
  2. Change at Seoul Station for KTX. Follow mainline / KTX signs and buy a separate KORAIL ticket, Seoul → Daejeon (대전). Check the train number, departure platform, carriage and seat. Do not choose Seodaejeon (서대전).
  3. Alight at Daejeon Station and follow taxi signs. Use the destination card below for your final taxi ride.

Why not recommend the direct bus? KAIST’s older directions describe a Daejeon bus, but we could not corroborate it in Gimpo Airport’s current Korean bus list on the review date. This does not establish cancellation. If the airport counter offers a service, confirm 대전청사, your terminal’s actual bay and the day’s departure before using it. Do not rely on the old 11-1 boarding instruction alone.

Alternatives and missed connections

If KTX is sold out, ask KORAIL for a later train or a slower mainline service that stops at Daejeon. Compare the complete arrival time before buying. A pre-arranged licensed intercity taxi is another option; request a total quote including tolls. Do not assume a late flight connects to the last train.

RECOMMENDED · YUSEONG BUS + TAXI

Cheongju Airport

CJJ → Yuseong → your destination

Use the Yuseong service when its departure fits your arrival. Do not assume Cheongju buses stop at Daejeon Government Complex.

  1. Buy before boarding. At the airport intercity-bus ticket machine or counter, select Yuseong (유성). The airport’s Korean bus list confirms the route and requires advance ticket issuance; it links to Bustago for bus information. Use your travel date, and confirm the terminal name and destination printed on your ticket.
  2. Go to platform 2. This is the airport’s published Yuseong boarding platform on the review date. Several routes share it: show your 유성 ticket to the driver, not just “Daejeon”.
  3. Alight at the Yuseong terminal on your ticket. Collect your bags and use the signed taxi area. Do not navigate from an old Yuseong terminal map; confirm the current terminal pin with the counter.
  4. Finish by taxi. From Yuseong, show the destination card below for the exact building or hotel.
Alternatives: airport train, Daejeon terminal bus or direct taxi

Train: check KORAIL for Cheongju Airport (청주공항) → Daejeon (대전) on your date before leaving the terminal. The airport’s rail guide describes a station about 600 m from the airport intercity-bus area and ticket sales at the 1F Tourism Information desk. Confirm current walking access; the station is unstaffed. Alight at Daejeon and take a taxi using your destination card.

Bus: the airport also lists Daejeon Complex Terminal (대전복합터미널) at platform 2. If it fits your arrival better, buy that ticket, alight there and take a taxi to your selected destination. This is not Government Complex.

Direct taxi: use the official airport taxi area or arrange a licensed transfer with your host/hotel. Confirm the intercity fare, tolls and luggage capacity before departure. No fixed fare or travel time is promised here.

RECOMMENDED · KTX + TAXI

Seoul Station

Seoul → Daejeon Station → your destination

  1. Buy Seoul → Daejeon (대전). Use KORAIL, a station ticket counter or a compatible ticket machine. Ask staff if your overseas card does not work. Check the date and service; Seoul Station is not Suseo.
  2. Board the booked train. Use the station departure board for the platform, then the carriage and seat on your ticket. Leave time to walk from the metro or AREX platforms to the mainline concourse.
  3. Alight at Daejeon, not Seodaejeon. Follow taxi signs and join the regular taxi queue. Show the destination card below for the final ride.
Alternatives: slower trains or a subway connection

KORAIL may offer a slower mainline service to Daejeon when KTX is full or unsuitable. Compare actual arrival times and stops. At Daejeon, the subway-plus-taxi alternative can reduce the road portion, but adds walking and a transfer.

RECOMMENDED · SRT + TAXI

Suseo Station

Suseo → Daejeon Station → your destination

  1. Buy Suseo (수서) → Daejeon (대전). Use SR’s SRT reservations or the station counter. SRT has a separate booking system from KTX. Choose a service that actually stops at Daejeon—not simply any southbound train.
  2. Follow SRT signs and the departure board. Check the date, train, platform, carriage and seat. A metro ticket does not cover SRT.
  3. Alight at Daejeon Station. Follow taxi signs. Show the destination card below for your final ride.
If SRT is sold out

Check a later SRT first. KTX from Seoul Station is a separate alternative: allow for the cross-Seoul transfer before purchasing. Do not treat Seoul and Suseo stations as interchangeable. Once in Daejeon, see the subway-plus-taxi option.

RECOMMENDED · TAXI TO YOUR EXACT DESTINATION

Daejeon Station

Daejeon Station → your destination

  1. Leave the train and follow taxi signs. Use the signed taxi rank; ask station staff for the accessible route if needed. Do not accept an unsolicited cash ride from someone in the concourse.
  2. Show your destination card before setting off. Select the correct building or hotel below. A campus address alone will not identify W11 or E6-1.
  3. Keep the destination on screen. Confirm the building sign or hotel name before leaving the taxi and check for luggage. Ask your host/hotel about late arrival or accessible drop-off arrangements.
Alternative: subway + taxi

See local transport for the campus and hotel interchange choices. It is not a direct subway ride to any of the four destinations.

The final leg · show this to your driver

Use the regular taxi queue or an arranged licensed taxi. The cards name the destination explicitly. Final approach, gate access and check-in arrangements should be confirmed with your host or hotel.

ON-CAMPUS · HOST-ARRANGED LODGING

KAIST on-campus lodging · W11

Official map name: International Faculty Apartment (외국인교수 아파트). Use W11 only if your host has confirmed your accommodation there. It is not the IBS guesthouse or a student dormitory.

291 Daehak-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon 34141, Republic of Korea · Building W11

대전 유성구 대학로 291, 카이스트 본원 외국인교수 아파트 W11로 가 주세요. 학생 기숙사가 아니라 W11입니다.

On arrival: confirm the W11 building sign. Arrange key collection and arrival time with your host before travel. The campus map places W11 in the west-campus area; a main-gate drop-off is not arrival at the lodging. Use the campus map and ask for the permitted nearest drop-off; no entrance-to-door walk is guaranteed here.

ON-CAMPUS · MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES

Natural Sciences · E6-1

Official map: Natural Science Building (자연과학동), E6; wing 1 is the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Ask specifically for E6-1, not another E6 wing.

291 Daehak-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon 34141, Republic of Korea · Building E6-1

대전 유성구 대학로 291, 카이스트 본원 자연과학동 E6-1 수리과학과 건물로 가 주세요.

On arrival: check the E6-1 sign, then use the meeting instructions from your host. Confirm the meeting room privately. If a taxi cannot enter, use the official campus map from your actual drop-off point; do not assume a main-gate drop-off is at the building.

HOTEL · SHINSEGAE ART & SCIENCE

Hotel Onoma

Hotel Onoma, Daejeon, Autograph Collection
1 Expo-ro, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon 34126, Republic of Korea

대전 유성구 엑스포로 1, 대전 신세계 아트앤사이언스의 호텔 오노마 입구로 가 주세요.

On arrival: ask for the hotel entrance, rather than a department-store entrance. Follow hotel reception signs and confirm check-in arrangements with the hotel. Marriott lists no airport shuttle; do not assume your booking includes a transfer.

HOTEL · DAEJEON CONVENTION CENTER AREA

LOTTE City Hotel Daejeon

33 Expo-ro 123beon-gil, Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, Republic of Korea

대전 유성구 엑스포로123번길 33, 롯데시티호텔 대전 입구로 가 주세요.

On arrival: check the hotel name and proceed to reception. This is the Daejeon property, not a LOTTE department store or a hotel in Seoul. Confirm late check-in directly with the hotel.

Map links are searches, not verified entrance pins. Check the building code or hotel street address against your confirmation. Maps can route to a campus gate or shopping complex instead of your entrance.

Local transport & the campus

From Daejeon Station by subway: follow Line 1 signs and board toward Banseok (반석). For W11 or E6-1, KAIST’s directions use Wolpyeong (월평), followed by a taxi to the exact building. For Onoma or LOTTE City, use Government Complex, Daejeon (정부청사) and continue by taxi with the hotel card. The subway station and airport-bus stop are different places.

Tickets and access: buy a subway ticket at the station or use a valid local transit card. Ask staff for the elevator route and the appropriate street-level taxi pickup. No exit number or wheelchair-accessible final approach is asserted here. Daejeon Transportation Corporation · KAIST transport directions.

KAIST shuttles: weekday services and eligibility may change. Check KAIST shuttle information and confirm visitor use with your host; do not depend on a shuttle for a late arrival. The shuttle is not a hotel transfer.

Walking: use the campus map for W11 and E6-1. Allow for a substantial campus walk if dropped at a gate. Hotel-to-campus walks and building entrances are not mapped step-by-step in this guide; with luggage or reduced mobility, arrange the final taxi drop-off.

Returning to the airport

Start from your actual building or hotel. Ask your host or reception to arrange a taxi to the boarding point printed on your return ticket. An inbound airport-bus drop-off is not automatically the outbound stop.

Incheon Airport · T1 or T2
  1. Check the flight terminal with your airline. In T-money intercity reservations, search DaejeonGovComplex / 대전청사 → IncheonAirportT1 or IncheonAirportT2. Confirm that the chosen departure serves the terminal on your flight ticket.
  2. For an available Government Complex departure, request the Daejeon Government Complex intercity / airport bus boarding point around Saemmeori—not simply the government offices, metro station or nearby express terminal. Show your booking to your host/hotel and driver, and confirm the current pickup location with the operator. We have not verified a fixed return bay.
  3. Arrive before the booked departure with your ticket. Confirm the airport terminal with the driver, load your luggage and alight at your terminal. Allow for road delays as well as your airline’s check-in deadline.

Rail backup: taxi to Daejeon Station → KTX to Seoul Station → AREX to the correct ICN terminal. Reserve the KTX leg separately, check AREX’s last departure and include the station transfer. For an early flight, consider staying near the airport the previous night rather than relying on a tight same-day connection.

인천공항행 버스를 타려고 합니다. 이 승차권에 표시된 대전청사 시외버스 승차장으로 가 주세요. 출발 장소를 확인해 주세요.

Gimpo Airport
  1. Taxi to Daejeon Station (대전역) and take a booked KTX to Seoul Station.
  2. Follow AREX signs. Use the all-stop train toward Incheon Airport and alight at Gimpo Airport; the non-stop Express does not stop there.
  3. Follow signs for the domestic or international terminal on your flight booking. A direct Daejeon–Gimpo bus is not verified here: use it only if the operator confirms a suitable service and the exact boarding point.
Cheongju Airport
  1. Search the current return timetable for Yuseong (유성) → Cheongju Airport (청주공항) using the airport’s bus information and its linked Bustago service. Confirm the current Yuseong terminal and date; do not substitute Government Complex.
  2. Taxi to the terminal printed on the ticket, find the boarding bay on its departure display, and take the airport-bound bus. Confirm 청주공항 with the driver.
  3. Alternatively, ask KORAIL for Daejeon → Cheongju Airport Station and allow for the walk to the terminal; or arrange a licensed direct taxi with a confirmed quote. Check the complete arrival time against your airline’s deadline.

Before you travel

Entry documents
Visa, K-ETA and arrival-declaration rules depend on your passport, status and travel date. Check the Korea Visa Portal, official K-ETA site and official e-Arrival Card site. Do not assume a temporary exemption applies to you or that every visitor submits the same form.
Tickets & payment
Intercity buses, KTX and SRT use separate tickets; a local transit card is not a reservation for them. Check date, terminal, destination and cancellation conditions before paying. If a foreign card or online verification fails, use a staffed counter. Keep some Korean won available for local purchases and card top-ups; acceptance varies.
Stay connected
Save your lodging confirmation and Korean destination card before you land. Download or print this page while online. The chooser and written directions work from a saved complete page with its local assets; linked maps and booking services do not work offline.
Late arrivals & accessibility
Tell your host or hotel if arrival is late; confirm keys, reception arrangements, luggage capacity and accessible drop-off before travel. Allow extra time for elevators and long station passages. If the final bus or train is unavailable, arrange safe overnight accommodation or a licensed transfer rather than improvising a tight connection.
Help on arrival
Use airport/station information desks and official taxi ranks. For a meeting or W11 check-in, contact your host using the details provided privately. This page intentionally does not publish room numbers or personal phone numbers.
